Land on Go Monopoly

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

When you land on GO in Monopoly, good things happen. If you’re like me, you’ll start wondering when you’ll be given your $200. However, should you expect more?

If that’s what is in your mind, you’ve come to the right place. This article discusses the implications of landing on GO in Monopoly.

What Happens When You Land on GO?

When you land on GO in Monopoly, you get $200. This is your salary for the round. You are also entitled to this salary if you pass GO. In other words, the bare minimum to get $200 is to land on GO.

This is the most certain way of getting income in the game. You can then use that money to create more income (through the purchase of spaces, houses, or hotels).

Do You Get $400 If You Land Exactly on GO?

According to Monopoly’s official rules, landing on GO or passing it only earns you $200. There’s nowhere in the rules where landing exactly on GO gives you a higher amount or $400.

However, as we shall see, there are house rules that can tweak things. So, in other words, there’s no special reward outside $200 from landing on GO

Do You Get Double Salary for Landing on GO and Passing GO?

No, landing on or passing GO does not give you two different salaries. As earlier mentioned, you get ONLY $200 when you land or pass GO. This applies even when you land on GO first and then pass GO.

Anything else is simply wishful thinking.

Getting Doubles and Landing on GO

As explained in our previous articles, getting doubles has several implications. One of them is that it allows you to play again.

So, for example, if you roll snake eyes and land on GO, you get to play again. When you land on GO, you are entitled to $200.

An exception to this rule is when you roll doubles thrice consecutively. If you land on GO on your third double, you go straight to jail. You also do not get your $200.

That’s a lot of wasted effort, in my opinion. However, this particular scenario rarely happens. It’s even more painful because the prison on the Monopoly board is at the first intersection of the board (3 intersections from GO).

House Rules Relating to Landing on GO

So far, we have mainly discussed the official Monopoly rules. However, most people who play Monopoly set their own house rules to spice up the game.

Thus, you can set house rules relating to landing on GO to make it more interesting. However, know that some rules can unintentionally prolong the game. I have compiled some of the most popular house rules relating to landing on GO

Land on GO and Get $400

The most popular one is getting $400 when you land on GO. This can be a lifesaver if you’re in debt. However, the downside is that there’s far more liquidity now in the game.

This also prolongs the game. However, if this is your aim, so be it.

Land on GO, and Your Third Doubles is Cancelled

Remember how we said you’d go to jail if you got a third double when landing on GO? This house rule reverses the thinking.

So, if you land on GO on your third double, you don’t have to go to jail. Of course, the odds of this happening is low. So, the impact is minor.

Land on GO And Choose Your Next Destination

Another house rule teleports you to any destination on the board if you land on GO. In other words, landing on GO gets you $200, and you also get to choose your next destination.

This adds extra spice to the game. It also can be very useful at the beginning of the game. You can also use this when you’re in desperate need of cash. Simply position yourself close to GO to get another $200 when it’s your turn.

Most players remove the option of choosing to land on GO again as their next destination.

These house rules can all be played together in the same game. So, get creative!

Landing on GO in Other Monopoly Editions

There are other changes with landing on GO in other Monopoly editions. I’ve taken a look and found some of the juiciest variations.

1.   Ms Monopoly Edition

This edition gives women the edge when playing the game. Women get $240 whenever they pass GO, while men get the usual $200.

This is in addition to women getting a larger sum to start the game. You can click that link for an in-depth explanation of this edition.

2.   Monopoly Animal Crossing Edition

Monopoly animal crossing has a lot of variations. When a player lands on GO, they get decorations. They also get the chance to browse the nook cranny.

This is a different world altogether compared to the Monopoly classic. If you are up for new Monopoly adventures, you should probably give it a closer look.

3.   Monopoly Plus Edition

Personally, I play Monopoly plus edition on my phone. When playing, it gives you the option to change the rules to $400 when you land on GO.

So, yes, this edition allows you to get doubles. You can get the online game version on Amazon.

4.   Monopoly Star Wars Edition

With the star wars edition, the amount stays the same. However, they are called credits, not money. So, landing on GO gets you 200 credits. There are no rules for getting 400 credits.

5.   Monopoly Here and Now Edition

In this edition, players collect $2 million when they land or pass GO. This sets the pace for other things in the game. This edition suffers from hyperinflation. So, most things are in the millions.
