Properties in Monopoly

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

One significant feature of the Monopoly board is the beautiful squares on all sides. These squares are known as spaces. In reality they are rectangle-shapes but are known as Monopoly squares, or Monopoly property spaces.

In other guides I’ve written, I have mostly focused on the Monopoly properties where players can build on. However, in this guide, I will list every square on the Monopoly board, jail space, utilities and railroads, and every other space on the Monopoly board.

Quick Facts About Monopoly Squares

  • These spaces are on the four sides of the Monopoly board.
  • Players are to move on these squares.
  • Most squares have a price attached to them.
  • There are a few squares players can’t buy.

What Squares Do You Start From In Monopoly?

All players must start from the GO space on the Monopoly board. No one starts from any other square within the board, even if you play house rules.

However, sometimes my friend and I have unfinished games we have to postpone. At those times, I take pictures of the setup, and we reset it the next time we want to play. This is the only time players may not start from GO. If you’re continuing an unfinished game, you can place your tokens where they were before the previous game ended.

What Are The Four Corner Squares in Monopoly?

On the standard version of Monopoly, the four corner squares are GO, Jail/Just Visiting, Free Parking, and Go To Jail.

How Many Chance Squares Are There On a Monopoly Board?

There are three Chance and three Community Chest squares on the Classic Monopoly Edition. Other special editions of the game may not include these spaces or may have more squares for these spaces.

How Many Properties Are In Monopoly?

There are 22 properties on the standard Monopoly edition, four railroads and two utilities open for players to buy.

What is The First Space After Go In Monopoly?

On the UK Monopoly board, the first space after GO is Old Kent Road. While on the US Monopoly board, the first property after GO is Meditteranean Avenue.

Conclusion

Although only the corner spaces are actual squares, the Monopoly board can be said to have 40 squares.

Although the names on the Uk and US boards differ, they have the same number of properties and follow the same layout.

Other versions of Monopoly may have differing numbers of squares, or might not have squares at all.
